Thinking of school is like a warm hug to the heart. I remember all my teachers from the years in Sankara. I wish to convey to the young generation that "Education is not only through the books, the exams and the grades. It is also in every moment a child spends at school, home and other places."

I have the honour of having 16-17 members of my family studying (current and alumni) in Sankara! My children too did a part of their education in Sankara. All my teachers were special and were a source of inspiration to me and enabled me to be what I am today. Every value that I hold today is guided by what I learnt at school.

My parents wanted to find a school which would not only give me an education but also imbue me with traditional values. I had the privilege of being part of many extra-curricular activities, to name a few—sports, Interact club, arts, project work beyond academics, alumni activities. From being a player to becoming the house captain has been the foundation of my leadership skills.

I liked the ambience of the school and have many memories of the wonderful teachers. The school had respect for the individual and believed that they could make us bigger and better.

Once a Sankarite always a Sankarite. I can remember many teachers who have inspired me in little ways throughout my school life. There is always something happening at Sankara—debates, sports, music, art, etc., that could shape you better than any textbook and help you identify who you are.

I attribute my present-day success to my school and teachers. My father chose Sankara over PS Secondary School because he said culture and values are very important and I will get that here. Looking back I think he made the right choice. Sankara is a special place with special teachers, please make the best use of your time while there.

We moved to Chennai from Bangalore with the primary aim of having my kids in Sankara. My son and daughter have graduated in 2012 and 2018 respectively. My parents chose this school as their focus was not just on marks, but also cultural knowledge and values.

My father was quite a visionary and he selected Sankara for me when we moved to Thiruvanmiyur. I am sure he had his reasons, and it worked out well for me! The school was a safe and friendly environment. It is built on our traditional Indian values and it is like a large family. This is a nice positive phase of life that I remember fondly.

All the teachers in Sankara were very loving and affectionate.I attribute all my success to my school. All the things I have achieved in life are due to my school and my school teachers. Honesty, integrity, discipline, empathy, and sincerity were some of the very important values which the school inculcated in me.

Talking of the School he says, “It instilled in me the values that have helped me to handle all of life’s challenges. It has played out very well in life. So many nuggets of wisdom came in at the right time to influence my attitude and response to multiple challenges in my career and life.”

Everything, right from the daily prayer we chanted, to my friends, to classes and studies, to cycling to school—I loved every moment of it! It was really the best time of my life. I am still in touch with many of my classmates.

Sankara had a homely atmosphere compared to the previous school. I remember my teachers fondly. The culture of the school gave me the soft skills to excel in life

The ethics, the learning, language and team spirit that the teachers inculcated stays with me. I am a storyteller today. The direction of plays in school and in scout camps helps me in leading companies better. The bonds of friendship ensure that I have a support system at work.

My best memories of school are the stress-free, easy-going ambience, and the good times with friends and teachers. Each and every teacher played a key role in my life. A good foundation of academics was created at school, upon which I was able to build further.

It is always a pleasure to talk about my school. It gives me special feeling to be an alumnus of the school and also a teacher. I feel comfortable in here, because I have a sense of belonging. It is like a second home to me because I spend most of my time here. It is not just a workplace, but something beyond that as there is always a special bond.

I was part of the school music group. We took part in a lot of inter-school competitions. The school always encouraged us to pursue extra-curricular activities. Today I am proud to be a teacher here.

I am one of the few from our batch to enter and stay in the field of education and owe a lot to Sankara for this. I have learnt to appreciate the importance of moving beyond preparing students on traditional skills to transferable skills. The learning from school has helped me to be a better collaborator, communicator, creative problem solver and a critical thinker.
