Inauguration of StreetScape by the Little Lords

The Streetscapes by the Little Lords initiative was inaugurated on August 28, 2024, at Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School. This project, launched by the Youth Services team of the Rotary Club of Madras (RCM), aims to promote street cleanliness and environmental awareness through activities such as painting school walls, cleaning the surrounding streets and planting saplings.

The welcome address was delivered by the Interact Club President, Anagha Tadepalli, who emphasized the collective responsibility we share in maintaining a clean environment. The school’s Principal, Mrs. Vidyalakshmi S, addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude to RCM for their support and underscoring the significance of the Interact Club at the school level. Following this, Mrs. Nandhini, the teacher coordinator for the Interact Club, presented the Annual Report for the 2023-24 term.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including RCM President Rtn. Chella Krishna, Youth Service Director Rtn. Balaji Chinni, Secretary Rtn. Rajesh Mani, Zone 1 Chairman Rtn. Vinay Mohan, Zone 2 Chairman Rtn. Shivakumar Vellur, Zone 3 Chairperson Rtn. Jayashree Sridhar, Special Project Chairman Rtn. Aswath Kumar Reddy, and Rtn. Venkatramani. Rotaractor Dharmesh and other RCM members also attended, alongside a special guest, Alba from Denmark—a 15-year-old Ferrari and FIA racer known as the fastest girl in the world.

Each dignitary delivered brief but motivating speeches, beginning with Special Project Chairman Rtn. Aswath Kumar Reddy, who introduced the Streetscapes initiative through two animated videos, highlighting its importance. Alba’s manager, Lance, introduced her, after which Alba shared her positive experiences in India and her excitement about visiting a school here.

RCM President Rtn. Chella Krishna delivered a compelling address, focusing on two major societal issues: the attitude of ‘not my problem’ and the lack of proactive problem-solving. He urged the younger generation to inspire others and lead by example, fostering a sense of selflessness for the greater good.

The dignitaries were then honored by the Principal with handmade paper flower bouquets and framed art pieces crafted by the students. The inauguration concluded with the planting of tree saplings on the school campus and the painting of an awareness-themed mural on the school compound wall.

The event left everyone with a renewed sense of responsibility, reinforced by Rtn. Chella Krishna’s powerful message: to view societal challenges as our own and strive to make a positive impact on the world.
