As a part of the PHBL (Phenomenon Based Learning), the school organized an enriching educational trip for the students of Std VI, to Dakshinachitra, a Heritage Village, situated on the East Coast Road, near Chennai.
The primary objective was to provide students with a hands-on experience of the South Indian culture and traditional arts and crafts. The village showcases the diverse and rich heritage of the southern states of India through its architecture, lifestyle and traditional practices.
The exploration of authentic South Indian houses from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, was one of the highlights of the trip. Students were fascinated by the unique architectural styles, which provided insights into the region’s historical evolution and cultural diversity.
Dakshinachitra also served as an open-air museum, displaying various traditional crafts and arts. Students witnessed artisans engaged in pottery, weaving and other crafts, showcasing the intricate skills passed down through generations. Interactive sessions allowed students to try their hand at some of these crafts, fostering a deeper appreciation for traditional art forms. Students also had a chance to talk to the artists and clarify their doubts.
Students left with a broader perspective of South Indian traditions, fostering a sense of pride and respect for their cultural heritage. The trip successfully combined entertainment with education, making it a memorable and enriching experience for all the participants.
