Exons 24, the Annual Biology and Biotechnology Expo was held on October 24, drawing participation from over 12 schools and more than 200 students. This year’s theme, Odyssea, centred on Marine Biology and Biotechnology, inviting participants to delve into critical issues like marine conservation, climate change and sustainable biotechnology through engaging presentations and interactive sessions.
Dr. R. Venkatesan, former expert at UNESCO and the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) and an Adjunct Professor at UMass Dartmouth and Anna University, graced the event as Chief Guest. His inspiring keynote speech underscored the significance of marine research and innovation, encouraging students to become catalysts for positive change in environmental and scientific fields.
EXONS 2024 offered a diverse lineup of events, including a panel discussion, paper presentations and Shark Tank. New events, such as Genome Genesis, which challenged students to design a novel organism, and Shipwreck, added excitement and aligned perfectly with the marine theme. These activities, organised by the students, showcased their creativity and deep engagement with biotechnology.
In a fitting conclusion, B.V. Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram emerged as the overall champion, taking home the coveted trophy.
EXONS 2024 has set a memorable standard as a platform for aspiring scientists to address global challenges and explore Biotechnology’s role in creating a sustainable future.
