In August 2024, Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School organized an engaging interactive learning session aimed at promoting Indian cultural music among the youth, in collaboration with SPIC MACAY. The session was designed to deepen students’ appreciation for Indian classical music and culture.

 

The highlight of the event was a captivating performance by Dr. R.S. Jeyalakshmi, who mesmerised the Standard XI students with her veena recitals. She provided invaluable insights into the intricacies of playing the veena, enriching the students’ understanding of this classical instrument.

The session also featured performances by renowned artists, including Vidwan Umalayapuram Mali on the Mridangam and Vidwan D.V. Venkatasubramanian on the Ghatam. Additionally, Kumari Charulatha Chandrasekar on the Veena, contributed to the event, further enhancing the cultural experience.

This interactive session was a profound success, offering students a unique opportunity to engage with and learn about the rich traditions of Indian classical music.
